Gary, was a good friend of mine, and he was in 11th grade, seen here in the background... he loved hanging out with us crazy girls... Me, Mary Alyce Peralta, Carolyn Baxter & Sharon Jones, in front of the cafeteria.

I had been searching for my great friend, Gary, for a long time, and found out about his passing from Ron Curtis, who also put me in touch with Gary's daughter, whom I contacted and sent her a DVD of photos of all the great cartoons that Gary drew for me.  Gary was an amazing cartoon artist!  I have many poster size drawings that he did of me and my friends.  In this one, is Me and Sherry Overton, on the same wave, with Lyla Powell on the beach and "Cinda Surfer", better known as Linda Towner.   I have so many wonderful memories with Gary Shafer and they are all filled with laughter.  He went water skiing with us at Marine Stadium in Long Beach and whipped into the beach and I have to admit, I have never seen the human body, fling around in so many directions and not have any bones broken.... that image is permanently burned into my memory bank!  I know he had some bad times after Viet Nam, and as he watches down from above...  he will know that he will never be forgotten and that he is loved.  R.I.P. Gary heart
