A sad posting today from the son of Karen Hill Bennorth.
Last night I lost my best friend, confidante, giver of unconditional love and the strongest woman I know, my mom. She was the best mom and grandma hands down and she fought until the very last minute. I am relieved she is out of pain and knew how much we love her. She knows her grandsons are happy and healthy and that's all she ever wanted. I love you mom and will miss you every single day.

Additional information from our SGHS '62 friends and their upcoming 60th reunion.
South Gate High School 2022 Visit and Breakfast
School buses will leave the Holiday Inn Long Beach Airport Hotel grounds at 8:30 AM on Saturday, September 24th, carrying classmates and guests on a journey onto the SGHS Campus (Think morning after Grad Night at Disneyland, but easier to find your bus). They will stop around 9:00 AM at South Gate Park, at the parking lot between the Golf Course and the Auditorium off of Pinehurst, to pick up more guests. One of the buses will be able to service those with mobility issues. At the school grounds we will have a full breakfast in the new (to us) outdoor dining area by the Cafeteria, as we greet each other sixty-plus years later for an extended morning break in a familiar setting; with available small group visits to campus areas and classrooms. After our breakfast, walking tours, and a group photo, we’ll board the buses to cruise Tweedy, South Gate, and local locations, then head back to the park and hotel.
This event, sponsored by the Class of 1962, is now open to the first 40 members or guests of the Classes of 1960 - 1964 who register. Being a hotel guest is not a requirement, but reserving spaces for Saturday morning is. Note that there are NO FEES for this adventure, and that the recipe for LAUSD cinnamon rolls has been recovered.

South Gate High School Class of 1964 Lunch Bunch
In December, we all had a great time at Guadalajara Mexican Grill and Cantina. The food was excellent and more than we could eat! Then we were off to the home of Jim and Jayne “Farrelly” Travis for dessert! Our dear friend and classmate Jay Runestad joined our lunch bunch. He is still a great guy and he is looking good!
Russ and Patty O’Daly livened up things at the restaurant and then the girls, Cheryl Montgomery, Jill Robertson Harding, Jayne Farrelly Travis and Sid Bruser Yohn went wild for dessert!
We all had a wonderful time and we truly thank Jim and Jayne. The photograph had a little too much fun and did not take pictures of all. He apologizes to those not included in the pictures.
Our lunch bunch will be meeting again on January 18, 2018 in the City of Los Alamitos at the Shenandoah Restaurant at the Arbor at 11:30 A.M

Shenandoah was built around creative dishes inspired by the best American flavors. Our menus reflect not only the heritage of our restaurant, but the heritage of our family. Both of Rick’s grandmothers were Texan and their delicious home cooking inspired many of the recipes we use today. Granny Wilson’s Fried Chicken, served with hot mashed potatoes and gravy, is a true Southern classic that may be the best you’ll have. Our German butter cake is another family favorite; served warm with a dollop of ice cream, it’s serious comfort food. Rick’s father was a colonel in the Air Force, which kept his family moving throughout the United States. Rick collected recipes from his years on the road, and our menus reflect his travels. You’ll find Cajun rib-eye and seafood gumbo from New Orleans, sand dabs from San Francisco, baby back ribs from Santa Fe, summer pasta from Sonoma, and maple-glazed salmon from Solana Beach, to name a few. Of course, we’re not short on Texan fare, as our hickory-smoked prime rib, chicken fried steak, and fried green tomatoes can prove. And, if you are planning an event or celebration, consider our picturesque, outdoor patio surrounded by beautiful Mulberry trees. So, check out our menus! Then, stop by for a little Southern hospitality, a fritter or two, and some of the best American flavors you’ll find.

Wow! There was laughter and a lot of fun for all at this great British pub! Maybe the “Bombardiers” had something to do with the “spirit” of the group! We missed Patty and Russ O’Daly attending races in Baja, Gerry Harris also attending races and we missed our dear friend, Carol Cole.
Due to the “Holiday Season”, our group will be meeting next on December 14th. Please note that that will be the second Thursday of the month. First, we will be meeting at Guadalajara Mexican Grill and Cantina in Temecula. Dear Lunch Bunch and Friends,
We need to let you know that the recent fires in Windomar came close to the home of Jim and Jayne Travis. The fire was a distance from their home where they could see the fire and the helicopter water drops. They were lucky and we are so happy for them!
Just a reminder, we will be meeting at “The Olde Ship” in Fullerton November 16th (see attachment.)
For December, our tentative plans are to meet at the Los Reyes Bar and Grill in Windomar for lunch and then go to Jim and Jayne’s for lunch! It should be a great time!
Hope to see you in November and December!

Dear Classmates,
I hope you are enjoying our South Gate ’64 and Friends website. It is hard to believe the website has been in operation for three years. When the website was launched we were nine months away from our 50th reunion and wondering if it could be organized in such a short time. It will not be long before planning begins for our 55th reunion.
The initial three year subscription for our website expires March 23rd. To continue the website’s operation for the next three years, without advertisements, a fee of $550 must be paid. Without the “premium” subscription the website will continue, but with advertisements. It is not known how intrusive the ads will be.
Contributions for maintaining our website as an ad free space will be greatly welcomed. If you wish to contribute, please mail a check, payable to Frank Pegueros, at 4184 Via Mattina, Palm Desert, CA 92260. If we exceed needed funding, proportionate refunds will be issued.
Thank you in advance for consideration given to this request.

Attention South Gate High School Class of 1964!
Dear Fellow Classmate,
Thanks to the efforts of Russ and Patty O’Daly, a group of our classmates have been meeting on the ‘’Third Thursday of the Month.” We tend to meet locally in the Southern California Counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego Counties.
On October 20th, we met at Ikeda Restaurant in Huntington Beach. Ikeda Restaurant is a favorite of Sydney Yohn. It was a winner!
We were exceptionally pleased when Ron Johnson joined the group. He brought his dog, he looked great and he really livened up our lunch. He got away before we could take his picture, but we will make sure we get his picture at the next luncheon.
Carol “Griswald” Cole came with her husband. When we discussed where to meet in November, Carol told us that there was an awesome dessert at the Claim Jumper at the South Coast Plaza and that is where we will be meeting on November 17th. The restaurant is near the 55 freeway and the 405 freeway. Please refer to the map (link below).
We will be meeting at 11:30, talk about the old days and catch up with what is going on in our lives today. If you are close by, on vacation or visiting in the area, please drop by and have lunch with us. We would love to see you! Early next year, Jayne “Farrelly” Travis and her husband James have invited our classmates to an open house at their residence. We will be setting up the time and date soon. Information and directions will be posted.
We are attempting to reach out to more members of our class. Much of our efforts are being done via email and facebook. If you receive a message from any of us, please forward to others in our class. We wish to thank Frank and Marty Pegueros for permitting out lunch group to place this message on the Southgate “Class of 1964” webpage.
